Role Details

The Occupational Health & Safety Department of Abosso Goldfields Limited - Damang Mine is seeking to employ a self-motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Risk and Systems Assistant. The successful applicant will assist the Unit Manager – Safety & Occupational Hygiene in ensuring effective records of Safety Management systems, processes, policies, the generation of periodic safety statistics, and the presentation of reports to meet ISO 45001:2018 standards and requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain records of Gold Fields health and safety policies, procedures, permits, forms, and safety management systems.
  •  Maintain and report on health and safety records and statistics
  • Monitor, analyse and suggest improvements from lead and lag health and safety indicators.
  • Compile daily, weekly and monthly safety statistics and other relevant health and safety reports.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of safety programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in keeping records and tracking incident investigation reports and corrective action registers.
  • Prepares and gives presentations related to safety programs/activities.
  • Partner with site leadership to optimise the on-site safety programs, initiatives and systems.

 

Key Requirements:

 

  • Bachelors’ degree in health and safety or its equivalent.
  • Health, Safety and Environment Officer Certificate of competency.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ working experience as a health and safety officer in a mining environment.
  • Lead auditor certification in ISO 45001:2018.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant local health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Sound understanding of health and safety management systems.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of risk management and loss prevention processes.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer literacy skills - MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong planning, organising and prioritising skills.
  • A valid light duty vehicle license and proficiency in driving a light vehicle.
  • Medical fitness for the position and environment.
