Gold Fields Ghana is seeking to employ a skilled and qualified Geotechnical Engineer to join the Technical Services Department. This position reports to the Section Geologist – Geotechnical. The incumbent will be responsible for daily pit and waste dump inspections, as well as the collection, analysis, and management of geotechnical data to support safe and efficient mining operations
About the role:
- Conduct geotechnical rockface mapping using shape Metrix and analyze collected geotechnical data.
- Carry out routine pit and waste dump inspections to identify geotechnical risks.
- Monitor groundwater conditions, with demonstrated competence in Vibrating Wire Piezometer (VWP)
- Generate and update hazard plans in accordance with Goldfields’ risk management protocols.
- Perform reconciliation of proposed designs against as-built configurations to ensure compliance with approved slope designs.
- Ensure effective communication and liaison with sectional supervisors for timely dissemination of geotechnical information, including cost-related data.
- Support slope and waste dumps monitoring activities using radar-based systems and berm monitoring systems
About you:
- Minimum of a tertiary qualification in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- At least three (3) years’ relevant working experience in a mining or geotechnical environment.
- Sound knowledge of slope monitoring systems, particularly radar-based technologies
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as DIPS, SLIDE2, RS2 and ROCSLOPE2
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Surpac.
- Possession of a MINCOM Competency Certificate.
- Valid Ghanaian driving licence
- Strong ability to identify, assess, and mitigate geotechnical risks and hazards.
- Good planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.
- Knowledge of applicable standards, methods, and procedures related to the role.
- Ability to use initiative, take responsibility, and manage tasks through to completion.
