Role Details:

 

Gold Fields Ghana is seeking to employ an experienced and self-motivated team player to fill the position of Superintendent – Laboratories. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Environment and Laboratories, the incumbent will assist in implementing operational policies in consultation with relevant internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and integrity with legislation, group wide analytical practices, international best practice and accurate/reliable analytical results. The incumbent will also be accountable for the continuous investigation and evaluation of new methodologies and procedures, to ensure operational improvements as well as early detection of deviations from planned arrangements and will ensure that deviations are diagnosed, investigated and appropriate corrective actions taken to effect compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the analytical processes to support the department to achieve its objectives and goals.
  • Co-ordinate the day-to-day operations of the assay and environmental laboratories and ensure efficient workflow
  • Control and evaluate the accuracy of laboratory data and ensure accurate and timely sample analysis and reporting
  • Advice on all issues regarding assay and environmental laboratory operations
  • Prepare and manage annual laboratory budgets
  • Set sectional objectives and targets and ensure implementation of procedures to achieve set targets
  • Implement, monitor and enforce strict QA/QC protocols to guarantee accuracy and reliability of results and ensure data integrity
  • Coach, mentor and train laboratory staff
  • Enforce strict adherence to laboratory procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with international standards and best practices and enforce laboratory safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure adequate availability and maintenance of resources needed for laboratory operations to guarantee continuity of work
  • Maintain a safe and friendly environment by ensuring that standards and procedures are developed and implemented in compliance with ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001 and other requirements.
  • Conduct internal audits and coordinate external proficiency testing.
  • Any other duties or assignments assigned by the supervisor.

 

Key Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualification in Chemistry/Laboratory Technology/Metallurgy
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ supervisory work experience in a mining and analytical laboratory environment.
  • Strong Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills.
  • Thorough knowledge in ISO 45001 (OHS), ISO 14001:2015 (Environment)
  • In depth knowledge in assay and environmental laboratory analysis and LIMS Software
  • Must possess Senior Health, Safety and Environment Officer Certificate of Competency from the Inspectorate Division of Minerals Commission, Ghana.
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in the application of industry regulations and standards.
  • A valid Ghanaian driver’s license and proficiency in driving light vehicles.
