Officer ETD: Mining Technical Training

The Officer ETD: Mining Technical Training is responsible for delivering and maintaining technical mining training per organisational and SETA standards. This includes training, assessing, coaching, and developing employees to meet quality and quantity benchmarks. Additionally, the role involves monitoring training interventions and compiling progress reports. Through collaborative programme design and delivery, these efforts aim to elevate South Deep HRD to world-class standards, ensuring long-term value for employees, communities, stakeholders and shareholders.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Accredited Assessor / Moderator certifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a training within a mining environment, specialising in Mining Training
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

 

Key Competencies:

 

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of Mining Standards and exposure to Mine Operational Training Centre
  • Knowledgeable in the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Attended relevant short courses: Safe Production Rules, Health and Safety course
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of operational activities
  • Perform inspections, task observations, etc. to assess team and workplace adherence to prescribed safe work and task delivery standards ensuring appropriate recording of deviations upon which to develop remediation actions
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Plan, schedule and conduct technical induction, orientation and capability training sessions as delegated and ensure alignment with operational and safety standards
  • Assess trainee skills, competencies and proficiency based on defined practical, written and observation assessments ensuring appropriate feedback and coaching is provided to improve trainee proficiency and assist with overall individual progression
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to design and update training programmes and material
  • Ensure training programmes satisfy organisational, regulatory, and SETA (Sector Education and Training Authority) requirements
  • Monitor and evaluate training intervention effectiveness and recommend/action the necessary adjustments as required
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure compliance with quality standards
  • Remain abreast of applicable changes in regulatory standards and related training methods and make recommendations to adjust training approaches and material as required
  • Collaborate with HRD leads, line managers, operational and support teams to identify training needs and propose appropriate interventions
  • Plan, secure and take care f training resources, including equipment and materials, to ensure effective management of resources and continued effective delivery of training programmes
