POSITION:                 Officer Warehouse 

JOB GRADING:          C Lower

DEPARTMENT:          Commercial Services

SITE:                           South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Warehouse Officer is a surface shift bound role accountable for the supervision of all goods administration, transactions, transportation, and materials handling (including loading and off-loading of materials) services.  The role further requires the incumbent to ensure optimal materials management administration such as order validation, reservation management, order distributions and related actions according to prescribed standards and procedures.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Supply Chain, Logistics or Transport Management
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a materials management, and distribution environment (preferably within the mining industry)
  • Valid code 08 (EB) drivers’ license
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
  • Self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Be able to handle conflict, cope with pressure and manage time effectively
  • Highly organised and strong administration skills
  • Working knowledge of Mining/Engineering standards
  • Working knowledge and application of SAP ERP materials management environment.
  • Experience in transport management (forklifts, bakkies and trucks)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and transacting on various databases

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of operational activities
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety and environmental policies and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Conduct pre-work and planned task risk assessments and ensure safety standards, procedures, and housekeeping requirements are followed
  • Escalate any non-compliance with safety, operational, or stock control requirements
  • Work with the team, monitor tasks, and help maintain teamwork and motivation
  • Build and maintain open, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee the receipt, offloading, inspection, binning, coding, issuing, and transfer of stock and materials on surface and underground, including the return of sub-standard items
  • Perform stock taking activities and resolve or escalate abnormal stock queries and unsuccessful deliveries.
  • Issue materials using the SAP ERP system
  • Monitor mobile equipment usage, ensure pre-start checklists are completed, and ensure maintenance schedules are followed
  • Participate in the preparation of month-end reports
  • Be prepared to work shifts and extended hours when required
