SITE:                            South Deep Gold Mine

 

The role of the Engineering Supervisor is to effectively plan, assign and supervise maintenance tasks for a multi-disciplinary team of electricians, plumbers and carpenters to ensure the safe execution of daily work.  Accountability includes maintaining optimal maintenance and functioning of electrical infrastructure, including but not limited to low and medium voltage, substations, transformers, distribution panels, etc. are maintained to the highest standards fostering increase of availability and reliability. The facilities are inclusive of but not limited to buildings, housing, residential areas and the services to those areas such as water, electricity, plumbing and general maintenance. Collaboration with other departments is crucial to ensure effective execution of ad-hoc electrical and mechanical requests.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an electrical and multi skilled mining environment as an artisan and 2 years in a Supervisory capacity
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Skilled communicator with proven ability to engage at all levels
  • Well-developed interpersonal collaboration and team skills
  • Proven track record of mining operations and facilities maintenance
  • Have good organising, coordination, and planning skills
  • Computer literacy with basic MS Office and SAP proficiency
  • Wireman’s Licence (advantageous)
  • Medium Voltage knowledge and experience

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure Health and Safety of section and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the MHSA regulations and company standards
  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation health safety environmental security policies and procedures and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Lead and supervise teams to ensure optimal safe working practice, focussed preventative maintenance, effective management of breakdowns and, special tasks/projects as assigned
  • Manage all team performance, development, and coaching to ensure optimal delivery
  • Carry out Planned Task Observations (PTOs) to verify capability of team members and initiate remediation measures to improve individual capability which includes on-the-job coaching as well as being capable of producing good quality risk assessments and hazard identification
  • Lead and participate in failure investigations on installations, equipment and components
  • Implement and/or recommend changes in maintenance and operating practice, engage with OEM suppliers and intermediaries as required to assist with investigations and the formulation of remediation interventions
  • Responsible for the implementation of the asset management strategy and tactical interventions in respect of all related installations and equipment in area of responsibility
  • Responsible for the safe and proper installation of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Participate in and formulate annual section budgets (budget managing, spares inventory, placing and follow-up of orders)
