The Plant Supervisor is responsible for monitoring and optimising the performance of the Metallurgical Plant. This includes leading and supervising plant operation teams and shifts to maximise plant throughput and recovery, ensuring cost efficiency, adherence to established operating procedures and metallurgical guidelines. The role requires effective leadership in managing employees and continuous collaboration with internal and external stakeholders across the mining operation.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- At least 5 years’ supervisory experience within a Metallurgical Gold Plant
- Proven application of the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) Cyanide monitoring standards
- Working knowledge and operating application of In-line Leach Reactors (e.g. Gekko), Carbon in leach processes, Carbon in Pulp processes, Smelt house reactor operations and associated sampling processes
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

- Sound spoken and written English communication skills
- Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to a culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and applying all specified legislative, Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures in all planning and execution of activities
- Supervise team through assigning tasks based on priority, skill level, and task complexity to ensure safe and effective work delivery within prescribed deadlines
- Supervise and monitor the assigned gold extraction process through SCADA in relation to ore milling, leaching, CIP/CIL (Carbon-in-Pulp or Carbon-in-Leach) stages, gold recovery and tailings disposal
- Ensure core plant operational parameters (e.g. pressure, temperature, chemical levels, etc.) are within prescribed limits for optimal recovery and safety and take the necessary corrective action as required in response to SCADA feedback to maintain continuous and safe operations
- Coordinate with plant operators and technicians for on-site adjustments as required by SCADA alerts or observed issues
- Maintain logs of SCADA system alarms and other unusual occurrences to ensure continuous improvement and troubleshooting while continuously assess real-time SCADA data and historical trends to detect process inefficiencies, deviations, or areas for improvement
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports on plant performance, highlighting production volumes, recovery rates, and any incidents or downtimes
- Initiate timely interventions during process interruptions, equipment failures, or safety breaches, making real-time adjustments via SCADA and deploying response protocols
- Troubleshoot minor SCADA issues and ensure the accuracy and reliability of data collection
- Work closely with metallurgists and process engineers to refine operational parameters and improve the efficiency of the gold extraction process.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders and maintenance supervisors to ensure that plant operational performance is within set parameters
- Plan and schedule daily maintenance, and manage shutdown activities, ensuring maintenance requirements are met and work orders are completed
- Ensure accurate administration, record-keeping, and reporting in accordance with departmental requirements
