The Assistant Engineer-Business Partners is accountable for the oversight and management of effective operational safety, scope execution and quality of Business Partner delivery within the Engineering Trackless department.  In collaboration with Trackless leadership and Business Partner site management, the role assumes accountability for ensuring the continuous improvement and sustainability of safe and effective Business Partner performance.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent with an NQF5 level certification
  • Relevant Engineering diploma/degree
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a trackless mining environment, of which at least 2 years in a supervisory role
  • Proven track record in managing projects and Business Partners
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure Business Partner alignment, application and effective delivery of the mine’s operational safety management system including safety campaigns, inspections, audits, planned task observations, etc.
  • Lead, participate and advise in capacity as technical expert and authority in all relevant risk management activities aligned to the mine’s Risk Management System, baseline risk assessments, bow tie analysis, critical control management, Material Unwanted Events (MUEs), etc.
  • Maintain effective team leadership to leverage team effectiveness and employee engagement
  • Develop, track and review improvements with execution, operation, and training team to improve efficiencies
  • Participate in Business Partner liaison structures, scheduled Contractor Life-Cycle Management (CLM) forums, etc.
  • Maintain and refine applicable engineering and related quality standards, procedures, and guidelines
  • Maintain defect register to eliminate / minimise defects and collaborate with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and facilitate product enhancement, product design and re-design as required together with reliability engineer
  • Ensure M4R (Maintenance for reliability) practices are aligned to improve machine reliability by identifying maintenance deficiencies including maintenance team competencies, correct tools and equipment, maintenance tactics, failure analysis etc.
  • Set the standard for underground workshops to enable the safe and effective execution of maintenance tasks. Evaluate existing workshops and report on maintenance team opportunities, extent of processes and systems in place, fit for purpose equipment and tools, logistical and warehouse improvements
  • Manage key reliability business partner performance against SLA’s. Manage the reporting and sharing of information from contractors to production personnel to identify gaps and improve performance
  • Monitor costs against allocated budget and manage deviations as required
