Are you a young person from one of our host communities, ready to take your first step into the world of work?
As part of the South Deep Social Development Programme and the National Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative, we are offering a 12-month Cadet Program designed especially for unemployed youth who have never had formal work experience.
This is your chance to gain real workplace exposure, practical training, safety awareness and skills development while learning from experienced colleagues in the workplace.
By the end of the program, you will be more prepared and marketable to step into a future career in or outside the mining industry.

Who we are looking for
Preference will be given to:
- Historically Disadvantaged South African (HDSA) youth aged between 18 and 34
- Youth who qualify as applicants from our host communities, which include:
- Bekkersdal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, Jachtfontein and Westonaria Borwa
To qualify as a host community applicant, you must:
- be a matriculated resident of one of the host communities listed above; or
- obtained Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate or equivalent) at a host community school
You should be:
- Fluent in English – both spoken and written
- Currently unemployed and have no previous formal work experience
- Prepared to work underground and/or in surface risk areas, including rotational shifts and extended hours when required
- Able to satisfy our pre-employment checks which include relevant assessments, qualification & security clearances, obtaining a certificate of fitness from the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre, etc.
