POSITION:                 Cost Accountant 

JOB GRADING:          C Upper

DEPARTMENT:          Commercial Services - Finance

SITE:                           South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Cost Accountant is responsible accounting duties (e.g. cost element analysis, allocation correction journals, requisition releasing, budget compilation and commitment follow up) by compiling, consolidating, and analysing actual costs against budgets and identifying opportunities to reduce wastage.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant tertiary qualification (degree or equivalent in Costing, Financial Management or Management Accounting)
  • A minimum of 3 years’ management or cost accounting experience within a mining/ manufacturing environment
  • Have SAP CO and PS experience
  • Knowledge of MS Word, PowerPoint and advanced Excel skills
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in and lead operational safety, health, environmental and risk management campaigns
  • Lead and supervise team ensuring effective task assignment and delivery and, take necessary actions to enhance team and individual performance
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements
  • Ensuring 100% SOX compliance in your area of responsibility
  • Invoice query resolution emanating from cost and variance analysis
  • Preparing daily, weekly and monthly cost reports for review by the management accountant
  • Completion of monthly reconciliations, adhoc report, resolving queries timeously
  • Processing of necessary costing journals
  • Monitoring cost management – actual versus budget, price and volume variances
  • Assisting in preparation of annual budget
  • Assisting in preparation of monthly management packs
  • Assisting Management Accountant with budgets and compile variance reports
  • Report and recommend information to management that contributes to effective decision making
