POSITION: Supervisor Engineering Control & Instrumentation (C&I)
JOB GRADING: C-Upper
DEPARTMENT: Metallurgy
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Supervisor Engineering: C&I is responsible for providing comprehensive technical support to the Metallurgical department, ensuring the effective application of C&I management systems, processes, policies, and resources. This role involves leading a skilled technical team to optimise operational performance while implementing defined and programmed planned maintenance, breakdown management and projects.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Instrumentation Trade Certificate
- Minimum 5 years’ Process Control Systems and Industrial Instrumentation experience in a processing Plant environment
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment
Key Competencies:
- Proven safety leadership capability with established safety campaign delivery record
- Accomplished frontline team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration
- Effective communicator with sound spoken and written English communication skills
- Proven track record of applying initiative, being a self-starter and work independently
- Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC Programming
- Experience on Rockwell Factory Talk SE SCADA Systems
- Knowledge of Device-Net and Industrial Ethernet Network Topology
- Well-developed fault-finding skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve issues
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Health and Safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in the planning and execution of operational activities
- Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by participating in and contributing to operational safety campaigns, applying relevant legislative, operational and safe work standards and regulations and, instituting and monitoring appropriate remedial actions as required
- Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained through managing workload, assigning tasks and reviewing/ recognising outputs of team members
- Actively support the company’s strategies and initiatives to promote a respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace culture
- Develop and maintain relevant software for PLCs and SCADA systems based on the set logic requirements
- Warrant correct installations and apply best practices on all PLC RIO Panel Installations and maintenance on PLC Master Rooms
- Ensure compliance with ISO 27001 by maintaining robust information security measures for process control, SCADA, and operational data systems in the Metallurgical Plant
- Proactively monitor and address premature equipment failures, ensuring timely interventions to minimise downtime, oversee high-quality repairs, and enforce compliance with industry standards
- Drive quality improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and equipment reliability, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Liaise with various stakeholders such as suppliers, auditors, and cross functional departments
- Manage in-house projects and provide support for the execution of contractor-led projects, ensuring alignment with specifications, timelines, and quality standards
- Manage the section's budget effectively, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to meet operational and financial objectives
