POSITION: Loco Driver
JOB GRADING: B - Lower
DEPARTMENT: Engineering – Tramming
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Loco-Driver is accountable for the safe operation of assigned rail-bound equipment which includes team conveyances, material cars and ore transportation
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Loco Driver’s Certificate/license
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a loco driver (Battery Operated)
- Appropriate Dover Assessment – B Level
- Be declared medical fit for the position and environment, as determined by risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment
NOTE: all relevant certificates must be attached to your CV in order to be considered for shortlisting
Key Competencies:
- Proven track record in safety leadership
- Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
- Ability to read, understand and follow basic operational safety standards, procedures, and instructions
- Intermediate knowledge of explosive handling and transportation standards and procedures
- Adherence to transportation and conveyance schedules i.e., effective results and deadline driven
- Intermediate knowledge of loco operations, maintenance, and re-ailment
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures
- Adhere to safety regulations and participate in operational safety campaigns and activities
- Attend general daily morning sectional activities and receive daily operational assignments
- Ensure full understanding of operational operating tasks assigned for the day or on ad hoc basis
- Assume accountability for the safe transportation of teams, material, ore, etc. as assigned
- Conduct locomotive and general equipment pre-operation inspection activities to ensure safe commencement and delivery of assigned tasks
- Ensure the locomotive is always in good running condition
- Ensure that service schedules are adhered to and that defects are logged and reported timeously
