The Manager Asset Optimisation role is responsible for leading and delivering the Gold Fields Asset Optimisation (AO) program across the South Deep Operation. This includes targeting improvements in Operating Effectiveness, Business Improvement activities and longer term large scale Transformational Change.  The successful incumbent will have active involvement in leading the Asset Optimisation (Business Improvement) team, engaging with Leaders and the workforce to meet or exceed performance KPI's that deliver sustained value

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering/Mining, Industrial Engineering or related discipline
  • Certified Lean and Six Sigma Black Belt or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 years’ mining experience in a large, mechanised mine
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial position with appropriate business improvement experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience using analysis to drive improvements through the application of Lean and/or Six Sigma tools and concepts
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Demonstrated ability to interface successfully on multiple organisational levels

  • Strong overall mining understanding and proficiency and the ability to support technical analysis activities
  • Ability to apply an in-depth understanding of the operations value chain to identify and execute on opportunities where technical expertise can enhance business performance
  • Demonstrate understanding of change management frameworks and ability to manage change initiatives at operational level
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of various aspects of operational business process framework including operational planning, work management and process performance
  • Experience with systematic, knowledge-based problem-solving and structured continuous improvement methodologies such as root cause and statistical analysis, DMAIC, lean tools

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Actively participate in and lead interventions through Visible Felt Leadership, aimed at contributing to a culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and ensuring compliance with specified legislation, SHE policies and procedures and operational standards, instructions, and governance requirements
  • Build, maintain, and strengthen cross-functional relationships with senior management on asset and functional levels to drive alignment and engagement
  • Execute the Asset Optimisation strategy and programs, manage compliance reporting to ensure progress aligns with the strategy’s objectives
  • Lead the site Business Improvement team while ensuring performance objectives and targets are SMART and deliver the expected outcomes
  • Implement the Management Operating Systems (MOS) in collaboration with subject matter experts, aligning with Gold Fields Standards, AO strategy and site requirements
  • Facilitate Business Process Review (BPR) diagnostic activities and business planning sessions with the BI and Leadership team to ensure alignment with the overall business plan. Ensure critical projects are governed, tracked and reported
  • Champion asset-level change and transformation efforts to foster a culture of continuous improvement and seamless operational transitions through training, coaching and communication. Foster employee engagement and embed behaviours in daily activities to promote a culture of continuous improvement across all levels
  • Manage the rollout of change projects and provide guidance on the change strategy for business improvement efforts
  • Contribute to identifying opportunities and best practice sharing across assets through Community of Practice, supporting consistent improvement and knowledge-sharing
