POSITION:                  Network Technician

JOB GRADING:          C Upper

DEPARTMENT:          Technical Buesiness Intelligence

SITE:                            South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Network Technician is responsible for the implementation, maintenance, and configuration of OT Networks to optimise mining processes while complying with mining guidelines, policies and procedures.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • National N Diploma Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation) or National Diploma in Network Systems/ Electrical Engineering (instrumentation) /Computer Systems or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with at least 2 years’ experience on installation and maintenance of networks
  • Sound knowledge of Cisco, Korenix and Moxa network equipment
  • Have knowledge of Hard Rock Mining, Shaft and TM3 operations
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and the environment, as determined by the risk based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health and Safety Centre, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • on all types of field Instruments
  • Proficient in application of process control systems and industrial networking with Cisco, Korenix and Moxa network equipment
  • Ability to correctly apply best installation practices regarding underground network configurations and installations
  • Computer literacy with MS Office proficiency

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure Health and Safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning
  • and execution of maintenance activities
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the MHSA regulations and company standards
  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by participating in and contributing to operational safety campaigns, applying relevant legislative, operational and safe work standards and regulations and, instituting and monitoring appropriate remedial actions as required
  • Maintain the safe operation of equipment, systems and processes in area of responsibility
  • Plan and structure tasks to achieve long and short-term targets, i.e.:
    • Upgrade Systems by replacing old network gear and virtualizing servers with minimal disruption
    • Build scalable, future-ready infrastructure to support automation and “connected” operations
    • Break goals into manageable tasks with clear roles, responsibilities, and progress checks
  • Responsible for OT, Networks, Server infrastructure, T&A Clockers and Linux Operating Systems
  • Coordinate and align IT, OT, engineering and Health & Safety teams to ensure effective collaboration
  • Liaise with various stakeholders
  • Train, coach and develop all team members according to Individual Development Plans (IDP) which must be network related
