POSITION:                 Officer ETD: Mining Technical Training 

JOB GRADING:          C Lower

The Officer ETD: Mining Technical Training is responsible for planning, delivering, and maintaining high-quality technical mining training aligned with organisational, regulatory and SETA standards. This includes conducting inductions, coaching, assessing, and developing employees to meet operational, safety, and competency benchmarks. The role ensures training effectiveness through monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement of programmes in collaboration with subject matter experts. It also involves managing training resources, maintaining accurate records, and fostering a culture of zero harm, thereby supporting the development of skilled employees and contributing to long-term value for stakeholders

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Blasting Certificate
  • Accredited Assessor / Moderator certifications
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a training within a mining environment, specialising in Mining Training
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
  • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of Mining Standards and exposure to Mine Operational Training Centre
  • Knowledgeable in the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of MS Office

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of operational activities
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety and environmental policies and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Perform workplace inspections and task observations to ensure safe work standards are followed. Capture any non-compliance and assist with corrective actions
  • Collaborate with HRD leads, line managers and operational/support teams to identify training needs and propose relevant training interventions
  • Partner with subject matter experts to design, update and maintain training programmes, learning materials and assessment tools
  • Plan, schedule and facilitate technical induction, orientation and capability training in alignment with operational requirements and safety standards
  • Conduct learner assessments (practical, written and observation-based) to evaluate competence, providing timely feedback, coaching and support for individual progression
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training interventions and implement improvements to strengthen learning outcomes and operational readiness
  • Ensure training programmes and processes meet organisational, regulatory and SETA requirements, remaining informed of changes to standards and best practice training methodologies
  • Maintain accurate training administration including record keeping, system capturing, correspondence, filing and audit-ready documentation in line with company and regulatory requirements
  • Plan, secure and manage training resources (equipment and materials) to enable effective delivery and optimal utilisation of training assets
