POSITION:                 Surface Risk Fitter

JOB GRADING:          C-Lower

DEPARTMENT:          Metallurgical Plant

SITE:                           South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Surface Risk Fitter is responsible for safely performing scheduled and ad hoc maintenance, repairs and inspections on Metallurgical Plant Mechanical equipment. The incumbent will be required to ensure that all work performed is captured and aligned to the Plant Planned Maintenance work order system.  The role is a 2.9.2 appointment requiring the incumbent to actively identify and report on hazards and risks associated with work activities performed in the section.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Recognised Fitter Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Fitter in a Metallurgical Gold Plant environment with sound knowledge of associated Plant maintenance on conveyor belts, Knelson concentrators, thickeners, mills, pumpcells, gearboxes & agitators, pumps, reactors, dewatering screens and general Metallurgical Plant equipment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Proven Plant maintenance and operational proficiency on conveyor belts, concentrators, thickeners, mills, agitators, pumps, reactors, dewatering screens and general gold plant equipment

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure personal health and safety and that of team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all safety, health, environmental and risk management standards
  • Perform inspections in accordance with prescribed legal regulations and Company standards including conducting pre-work assessments (SLAMM) prior to commencement of work
  • Conduct daily inspections on Plant equipment to assess maintenance or repair work to be carried out and ensure that planned maintenance work is appropriately reported and scheduled
  • Carry out routine inspections as per planned maintenance job cards and prioritise repairs as required while attending to equipment breakdowns ensuring the timely completion of job cards, reports to foreman and escalations are executed by shift end
  • Conduct standby duties as rostered and attend to callouts to execute emergency repair work
  • Accompany and collaborate with service providers on equipment inspections and maintenance as scheduled
