POSITION: SAP Specialist - Planned Maintenance
JOB GRADING: C – Upper
DEPARTMENT: Engineering – Asset Management
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The SAP PM System Specialist is responsible for managing, optimising and supporting the SAP Planned Maintenance system to ensure effective maintenance planning, accurate master data and reliable system performance. The role provides specialist support, reporting, troubleshooting, user training and system governance, while driving continuous improvement and integration with Engineering and other business functions.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Have 5 years of Experience as an SAP PM System Specialist in the mining or similar industry
- Have 3 years’ experience on the SAP Planned Maintenance System
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Possession of a SAP PM User Certification
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre

Key Competencies:
- Sound interpersonal relations, collaboration and good communication skills

- Knowledge and understanding of equipment maintenance regimes
- Advanced SAP Planned Maintenance system functionality knowledge i.e., Preventive & Corrective Plant Maintenance, Spares Planning & Management, PM-Master Data management and quality management.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, SAP, and database management systems.
- Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and accountability
- High level of collaborative problem-solving skills with a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and deadline-driven environment
- Competency in Microsoft Power BI, including data analysis, reporting, and dashboard development, will be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with all organisational relevant Safety, Health & Environmental policies and campaigns
- Stay abreast of relevant changes within the SAP ERP environment to ensure effective identification, assessment, and management of system changes, with specific focus on the impact of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) integration with other modules, including Procurement, SuccessFactors, and CAS
- Continuously evaluate SAP system effectiveness, recommend enhancements to optimise functionality and business processes, and manage the testing and implementation of system changes, configurations, and interfaces to ensure system integrity and performance
- Evaluate and recommend suitable Planned Maintenance systems, tools, and equipment specifications to ensure optimal utilisation, alignment with maintenance strategies, and improved asset performance and reliability
- Specify and maintain SAP PM master data, data logs, reports, etc. ensuring optimal security and storage
- Develop and execute backup and recovery plans in conjunction with operational IT Develop, maintain, and execute effective backup and recovery plans in collaboration with Operational IT to ensure data integrity, system availability, and business continuity
- Create and maintain SAP Planned Maintenance queries, generate relevant reports, and analyse maintenance data to identify trends, improve system utilisation, and enhance asset reliability
- Monitor Measurement Point and Counter readings to ensure correct data
- Monitor and oversee system performance, report generation, and system utilisation, identifying deficiencies and implementing appropriate remedial actions to ensure optimal system effectiveness
- Manage SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) user authorisations, profiles, and user accounts, including the administration of credentials, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations to ensure secure and effective system access
- Provide SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) system training and support to Planned Maintenance teams, operational leaders, supervisors, and end users to ensure effective system utilisation and adherence to maintenance processes
