The Section Mine Planner is accountable for identifying, designing and planning cost effective short- to medium-term optimal mining plans by applying the understanding of the geological and geotechnical characteristics of the mineral resource to enable the achievement of production and mine development objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
· Grade 12 or equivalent
· BSc Degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Resource Management or related discipline
· Minimum 2 years’ short-term mine planning experience supported by at least 2 years’ operational/production experience at mid management level
· Proficient in mine planning packages and reporting tools (Deswik Suite, Syncromine, XPac, etc)
· Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment
Key Competencies:
· Advanced safety leadership capability with proven safety campaign delivery record
· Accomplished team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration and, sound spoken and written English communication skills
· Advanced understanding of operational working culture and dealing with operational delivery challenges
· Ability to cope with ambiguity with high personal resilience and change adaptability
· Co-ordinate and develop short-term mining plans to optimize the extraction of the ore body
· Contribute towards the safe, profitable and cost-effective mining of mineral reserves and the development of new mineral reserves
· A solid understanding of the mining value chain, with knowledge of Long Hole Stoping being an advantage
· Develop monthly plans and roll-out of the 3-monthly operational plans
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Actively participate in, and lead interventions aimed at contributing to a culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and ensuring compliance with specified legislation, SHE policies and procedures, operational standards, instructions and governance requirements
· Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational SHE standards, operational campaigns and instructions
· Schedule and conduct regular operational safety, safe work practice and operational delivery inspections ensuring appropriate remediation interventions are executed
· Maintain effective people management practices by ensuring that team roles and competencies are clearly defined, and that effective team delivery is maintained
· Coach and guide Front Line Leaders (FLL) to assume and maintain effective and direct leadership accountability over their operational teams in respect of safety management, shift planning, work assignment, planned task observations and executing remedial measures
· Coordinate integrated planning by involving key stakeholders in the development of monthly 3-month rolling plans, aligned with medium- and long-term business objectives
· Interpret operational efficiencies and requirements in resource scheduling for mining activities, including backfill, secondary support, engineering services, and logistics to meet business plan targets
· Develop, enhance, and ensure compliance of mine designs with statutory and company standards; whilst continuously monitoring and analysing mining modifying factors
· Advise management on tactical matters related to the Mine Planning Unit's functions that may impact business operations and offer strategic solutions to mitigate such issues
· Conducting regular policy reviews and audits, offering strategic inputs or solutions to mitigate current and potential issues
· Liaise across departments to optimise short-term planning, participate in planning meetings, and provide guidance and necessary information for compliance measurement
· Compile operational reports at regular intervals, highlight deviations to business plans with recommended remedial actions
· Maintain and audit the accuracy of the management information systems
· Undertake continuous research on new technologies and systems, implement findings, and engage in relevant forums to improve operational results
