POSITION: Senior Mineral Resources Technician
JOB GRADING: C4

SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Senior Mineral Resources Technician is accountable for co-developing and maintaining geological models through collecting, interpreting and incorporating geological data sourced during underground stope operations, development sampling, boreholes and geological observations. The role relies on the accurate mapping, processing and analysis of data to inform resource estimation and associated modelling. Additionally, the Senior Technician adheres to safety protocols, ensuring optimal compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards, to maintain a safe working environment for all underground employees.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- BSc Degree / Diploma in Geology
- A minimum of 2 years’ working experience in an underground gold mining environment
- Advanced proficiency in 3D digital geological data modelling and software packages Proven proficiency in technology interfaces and capabilities/opportunities within the mineral resources environment
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

- Advanced proficiency in 3D digital geological data modelling and software application e.g.: Datamine, DH Logger and Database Management
- Sound knowledge of Witwatersrand-type gold ore bodies and database management skills
- Advanced knowledge of structural geology and sedimentology
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure Health and Safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of activities
- Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, Health Safety and Environmental security policies and procedures and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
- Promote cross-functional working relationships, incorporating a true “team spirit” with mutual support to meet the Mine's objectives
- Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant stakeholders
- Ensure that all Geological processes and regulations are adhered to
- Collection and processing of data from underground exposures, by way of mapping and boreholes. This includes the accurate recording and reporting of geological data, ensuring the integrity of sampling procedures, and maintaining the quality and accuracy of geological models
- Ensure that all data from mapping, drilling, logging and sampling is accurately recorded, categorised, and stored, whilst maintaining the integrity of the data
- Interpret and incorporate data into geological models for the designated area using specialised software and analytical techniques to create models that represent the spatial distribution of minerals, rock types, and geological structures
- Implementing and maintaining quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) procedures for sampling, logging, and data collection processes
- Conduct geological risk assessments and assist in developing mitigation strategies to ensure safe and uninterrupted mining operations
- Participate in and contribute toward tactical operational planning and decision-making during production planning meetings by providing inputs, expertise and recommendations based on geological skills and knowledge
