The Spares Planning Assistant is accountable for proving effective daily Planned Maintenance functional support through the timely and accurate processing of operational works orders and for the ordering, processing and delivery of spares, components and materials required for scheduled and ad hoc equipment, plant and infrastructure maintenance work.  The incumbent is also required to actively partner with operational and supply chain teams to ensure the maintenance of pre-defined spares inventory levels and, for maintaining accurate condition records of exchanged components.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Accredited Trade Certificate or, a recognised Supply Chain or Planned Maintenance Diploma
  • Minimum of 3 years’ maintenance experience within a trackless environment or, proven track record in Materials Management within a mechanised trackless mining environment
  • Proficient in the use of SAP, specifically in the ordering and purchasing system modules
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Demonstrated ability to independently and proactively expedite spares availability and supply
  • Proficient in the application of spares and equipment pallet and cassette system allocation
  • Intermediate knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems
  • Computer literacy with MS Office proficiency

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in daily meetings to discuss safety standards and procedures, risk assessments, planned task observations and daily jobs
  • Partner with the supply chain function to maintain spare inventory levels at pre-determined levels, reducing carrying and storage costs
  • Proactively ensure the availability of the right equipment at the right time to avoid machine downtime
  • Conduct and record pre- and post-assessments on old components according to standard operating procedures
  • Collaborate with planned maintenance, engineering foremen and supply chain teams to plan and manage the timely, accurate and effective ordering, logistics and delivery of parts, components and materials escalating any aspects that could impact service delivery
  • Engage with operational and planned maintenance teams to ensure the timely, accurate and effective planning, capturing, and processing of works orders
  • Maintain and control parts issue register to ensure accurate and consistent status reporting on parts, components, and materials
  • Ensure unused spares are returned to stores and credited to relevant engineering budgets
  • Assist with the movement of spares and equipment as and when required
