The Superintendent ETD: Mining Technical Training is accountable for determining current and future operational compliance and proficiency-enhancing mechanised mining technical training needs. Further, to lead and co-design integrated, blended learning capability development programmes incorporating instruction, virtual and augmented reality learning curricula. The incumbent should draw from an accomplished track record comprising operational safety, mining technical delivery and human resource development expertise to oversee, facilitate and assess end-to-end and optimised learner experiences. These collaborative programmes aim to elevate South Deep HRD to world-class standards, ensuring long-term value for employees, communities, stakeholders and shareholders.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Development, Education and Training or related disciplines
- Blasting Certificate
- Mine Overseers Certificate of Competency
- Assessor and Moderator Certified
- Proven track record in developing training needs analyses with associated facilitation and development material design
- Minimum 5 years’ experience at junior management level in a mechanised underground mining environment
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

- Accomplished team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration and, sound spoken and written English communication skills
- Proven diagnostic, problem-solving, decision-making skills
- Sound project management skills
- Advanced proficiency in developing training needs analyses and technical training programme design
- Intermediate appreciation of virtual reality and augmented reality programme content translation
- In-depth understanding and proven application of assessment and moderation procedures
- Advanced understanding of the mechanised mining environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational SHE standards, operational campaigns and instructions and, ensuring appropriate remediation interventions are formulated and executed
- Promote a culture of authentic safety leadership by participating in and leading operational Safety, Health, Environment and Risk management campaigns, audits, incident management and investigations
- Monitor relevant legislative changes impacting the HRD discipline and develop recommended strategies/interventions to ensure compliance within area of accountability
- Championing the company’s strategies and initiatives to promote a respectful, diverse, and inclusive workplace culture, while driving the company's strategic people initiatives
- Participate in and lead team coaching, resourcing, capability, succession and talent management initiatives
- Participate in, co-design, execute, and monitor short, medium, and long-term Mechanised Technical Training and Immersive Learning training interventions
- Participate in and lead the active engagement with operational and peer groups to define and refine operational training needs analysis
- Develop and maintain the Mechanised Training prospectus aligned to defined current and future training needs analyses
- Oversee and monitor the development and delivery of training scheduling, attendance, evaluation and record keeping and, ensuring appropriate remediation measures initiated as required
- Remain abreast of developments and advances in relation to emerging training methods, technologies and application for incorporation and/or adoption within the HRD unit
- Manage stakeholder relationships with key internal, Business Partner and external stakeholders by ensuring broad accountability is maintained against operational delivery, service level, commercial, community and ethical standards
- Control expenditure on working cost, capital and all other related budgets
