POSITION:                 Superintendent ETD: Engineering Technical Training 

JOB GRADING:          D Lower

The Superintendent ETD: Engineering Technical Training is responsible for identifying current and future operational, compliance and technical capability needs within the engineering environment. The role leads the design and delivery of integrated, blended learning programmes that combine technical instruction with modern approaches such as virtual and augmented reality. Leveraging strong experience in operational safety, engineering technical training and people development, the incumbent oversees and evaluates end-to-end learner journeys to ensure effective, practical and optimised outcomes. Through cross-functional collaboration, these programmes build workforce capability and elevate learning and development to world-class standards

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • National Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Development, Education and Training or related disciplines
  • Trade Certificate
  • Accredited Assessor and Moderator - ETDP Level 5
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience at supervisory level in an Engineering surface & underground mining environment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Advanced safety leadership capability with proven safety campaign delivery record
  • Accomplished team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration and, sound spoken and written English communication skills
  • Proven diagnostic, problem-solving, decision-making skills
  • Sound project management skills
  • Advanced understanding of a mechanised mining environment
  • Familiar with the role requirements, or have experience as an Engineering Overseer
  • Demonstrated experience in training needs analysis and the design, facilitation and development of technical training programmes and learning materials
  • Intermediate appreciation of virtual reality and augmented reality programme content translation
  • In-depth understanding and proven application of assessment and moderation procedures

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Actively engage in and demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership aligned to operational Safety, Health and Environmental standards, operational campaigns and instructions and, ensuring appropriate remediation interventions are formulated and executed
  • Promote a culture of authentic safety leadership by participating in and leading operational Safety, Health, Environment and Risk management campaigns, audits, incident management and investigations
  • Actively support the company’s strategies and initiatives to promote a respectful, diverse and inclusive workplace culture and an environment of care and accountability
  • Participate in and lead team coaching, resourcing, capability, succession and talent management initiatives
  • Participate in, co-design, execute and monitor short, medium and long-term Engineering Technical Training and Immersive Learning training interventions
  • Participate in and lead the active engagement with operational and peer groups to define and refine operational technical training needs 
  • Develop and maintain the Engineering Training Prospectus, ensuring alignment with current and future training needs analyses
  • Oversee and monitor training planning and delivery, including scheduling, attendance tracking, evaluation and record management, and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented where required
  • Stay informed of advancements in training methodologies, technologies and applications, and drive the integration of relevant innovations within the HRD function
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the HRD discipline and develop appropriate strategies and interventions to ensure ongoing compliance within the area of responsibility
  • Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, Business Partners and external parties, ensuring accountability for operational delivery, service levels, commercial requirements, community considerations and ethical standards
  • Control expenditure related to working costs, capital and associated budgets to ensure effective financial managment
