POSITION:                  Supervisor ETD: Shaft & Logistics 

JOB GRADING:          C Upper

The Supervisor ETD: Shaft & Logistics is responsible for identifying training needs, designing and delivering targeted Shaft and Logistics technical programmes, and assessing employee competency to ensure operational proficiency and safety compliance. The role drives on-the-job coaching, mentorship, and development interventions aligned with individual development plans and departmental succession strategies. Through effective stakeholder engagement, scheduling, and monitoring, the incumbent ensures high-quality, measurable training outcomes. By maintaining accurate records and providing actionable progress reports, the role fosters a culture of Zero Harm, operational excellence, and talent readiness that supports long-term business and people value

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Relevant Trade Certificate (Electrical/Mechanical/Boilermaker)
  • Accredited Assessor, Moderator, ETDP Level 5 qualification
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a training environment within a Shaft, Logistics and Engineering Operations
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Knowledge of Mining standards and the Mine Health and Safety Act
  • Knowledge of Shaft and Logistics Engineering Standards
  • Efficient in Shaft and Logistics Operational Training
  • Knowledge of Mining Standards and exposure to Mine Operational Training Centre
  • Sound knowledge of appropriate HRD systems
  • Computer literate (proficient in Microsoft packages)

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and applying all requirements as laid down by legislation, Health, Safety & Environmental policies, standards, procedures and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Liaise with relevant Heads of Departments to identify candidates to be trained in line with employees IDP’s and department succession plan
  • Identify critical skills gaps and design targeted interventions to ensure talent readiness for operational and business objectives
  • Engage and collaborate with operational stakeholders (Supervisors, Engineering Overseers, Mine Overseers, MQA, etc.) to align expectations, resources, and standards
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of comprehensive training programmes in line with signed-off schedules
  • Drive the delivery of high-impact training interventions, including on-the-job coaching, assessments, and competency development initiatives
  • Monitor training effectiveness, proactively adjusting programmes and interventions to optimize employee proficiency and operational performance
  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of all training activities, interventions, and outcomes, providing actionable insights to leadership and clients
  • Maintain accurate training administration including record keeping, system capturing, correspondence, filing and audit-ready documentation in line with company and regulatory requirements
  • Support day-to-day ETD operational tasks and ad-hoc training requirements as per business needs, including availability for shift-aligned or extended hours where required
