POSITION:                  Supervisor ETD: Technical Trainer TMM 

JOB GRADING:          C Upper

The Supervisor ETD: Technical Trainer TMM is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering robust technical and maintenance training for the current and future mechanised fleet. The incumbent identifies critical capability gaps, co-develops integrated learning programmes, and leverages diverse training methods to enhance operational proficiency, safety, and compliance. By engaging collaboratively with line management and stakeholders, the role ensures effective planning, execution, and monitoring of training interventions. Through coaching, assessments, and follow-ups, the incumbent drives a high-performance learning culture that supports operational excellence, Zero Harm, and long-term value creation for employees, communities, and the business.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Tertiary Qualification (HRM / ETD Diploma)
  • ETD Practitioner Level 5 qualification
  • Registered MQA assessor and moderator
  • Relevant Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in operating / maintaining production Trackless Mobile Machines (TMM)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a technical training environment within a trackless mining environment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Advanced safety leadership capability with proven safety campaign delivery record
  • Accomplished team and people leader with advanced inter and intra-team collaboration and, sound spoken and written English communication skills
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of trackless machinery and equipment particularly face drill rigs, Longhole drill rigs and LHD`s, preferably Sandvik (DD 321), Epiroc (M6C & S7D) and LHD (LH 514 line of sight and tele-remotes)
  • Effective presentation and facilitation skills
  • Sound knowledge of appropriate HRD systems
  • Computer literate (proficient in Microsoft packages)

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to and applying all requirements as laid down by legislation, Health, Safety & Environmental policies, standards, procedures and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Conduct ongoing training needs analysis to identify critical capability gaps for TMM operators and artisans
  • Design, update and maintain integrated learning materials, SOP-aligned lesson plans and assessment tools
  • Facilitate theoretical and practical TMM training (surface and underground) in line with mine standards, COPs and operational requirements
  • Provide on-the-job coaching, post-training follow-ups and competency assessments to ensure effective skills transfer
  • Partner with line management to plan and schedule training with minimal disruption to production priorities
  • Manage training administration including scheduling, learner registers, record keeping, system capturing and audit compliance documentation
  • Track and report on training progress, completion and competency outcomes, providing accurate stakeholder updates
  • Support training improvement initiatives and contribute to ETD projects aligned to operational performance, safety and talent development
