POSITION:                  Supervisor Engineering Electrical 

JOB GRADING:          C Upper

DEPARTMENT:          Engineering - Horizontal Logistics

SITE:                            South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Supervisor Engineering Electrical is accountable for scheduling, coordinating and supervising maintenance and repairs on plant, equipment and associated infrastructure to attain optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).  This includes leading a maintenance team and collaborating with production, engineering and support teams for the safe and effective delivery of cyclical production and related objectives.  A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 and relevant Electrical trade certificate
  • Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an underground electrician and at least 3 years’ experience in an electrical supervisory capacity
  • Must have experience and knowledge on underground rail bound equipment, including battery and electric locomotives, pumping, pneumatic and hydraulic power pack systems (electrical portion)
  • Experience with various underground machinery such as winches, chairlifts etc as well as a good understanding of underground electrical reticulation
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

 

Key Competencies:

 

  • Intermediate operational safety experience with sound appreciation for safety standards and record management
  • Proven people and team leadership skills
  • Good communication, interpersonal and team leadership skills
  • Proven organisation skills - planning, organising, leading, and controlling 
  • Proven underground horizontal, rail bound equipment and related maintenance experience
  • Proven working knowledge of planned maintenance systems
  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting and explaining intermediate to advanced hydraulic system layouts/drawings
  • Computer literacy with basic MS Office proficiency
  • Working knowledge of SAP

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Accountable for legal compliance as a 2.9.2 appointee for area of responsibility
  • Maintaining health and safety policies, standards, and procedure for section
  • Convene and participate in sectional health and safety meetings, forums and campaigns
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, planned task observations, etc. and maintain associated documentation and reports
  • Lead and supervise team to ensure optimal safe working practice, focussed preventative maintenance and breakdown management and, special tasks/projects as assigned
  • Manage all team performance, development and coaching to ensure optimal delivery
  • Collaborate with engineering specialist teams to continuously assess and revise equipment and plant maintenance regimes and to ensure optimal planned/preventative maintenance standards are implemented and maintained
  • Lead and participate in various operational projects as determined from time to time and manage resources assigned to ensure optimal and safe task execution in respect of effectiveness and efficiency
  • Oversee, plan and manage maintenance and inspection of equipment e.g. locos, skid steer loaders and all relevant horizontal and vertical transport equipment and, engage Electrical/Technical problem solving
  • winding plant, water and air reticulation systems etc.
  • Lead and participate in installation, equipment, component, etc. failure to assess changes in maintenance and operating practice and/or engage with OEM, suppliers and intermediaries as required to assist with investigations, etc.
  • Participate in and formulate annual section budgets, manage budget, spares inventory, including the placing and follow-up of orders
