POSITION:                Electrical Supervisor Engineering

JOB GRADING:        C - Upper

DEPARTMENT:         Engineering – SIB

SITE:                         South Deep Gold Mine

 

The role of the SIB Electrical Supervisor is to effectively manage contractors working on SIB (Stay in Business) projects, to ensure health and safety standards are adhered to and that the electrical infrastructure installed by SIB, including but not limited to Medium Voltage electrical reticulation, substations and gulley boxes are installed in compliance with Mine code of practice and standards. The SIB Electrical Supervisor also ensures that projects are planned, budgeted, scheduled, coordinated and executed timeously and safely. Collaboration with other departments is crucial to ensure effective execution of stakeholder management.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Medium Voltage Certificate
  • Supervisory managerial training with relevant certificates
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in an industrial & mining environment on medium and low voltage equipment as an Artisan and 5 years in a Supervisory capacity
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Key Competencies:

 

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Skilled communication with proven ability to engage at all levels
  • Well-developed interpersonal collaboration and team skills
  • Have good organising, coordination, and planning skills
  • Computer literacy with basic MS Office
  • SAP experience will be advantageous
  • Medium Voltage and Low Voltage knowledge and experience
  • Working experience in the mining industry and specifically winders including winder control systems, winder safety devices, winder fault finding and general winder operation will be advantageous
  • Proven track record for working with electrical protection systems and devices

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • The incumbent will report directly to the SIB project coordinator electrical
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of project teams/personnel by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of project activities
  • Contribute to the culture of Zero Harm by adhering to all safety requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, and security policies and procedures and by the application of specific instructions to safe work environment
  • Perform inspections, tests, recordings and maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment (both MV and LV) in accordance with the MHSA regulations and Mine standards
  • Lead and supervise project teams to ensure effective project execution while maintaining optimal safe working practices, ensuring compliance to all South Deep standards and procedures, and assist with energy efficiency projects
  • Assist with the training of electricians and drafting of electrical standards for the mine
  • Assist with electrical audits and close out of audit findings
  • Lead and participate in failure investigations and fault finding on installations, equipment, components, etc. to implement and/or recommend changes in maintenance and operating practice and, engage with OEM, suppliers and intermediaries as required to assist with investigations and the formulation of remediation action interventions
  • Participate in and formulate annual project budgets, manage budget, spares inventory, including the placing and follow-up of orders
  • Perform maintenance and fault-finding duties on winding systems, fridge plant / ventilation equipment, overhead cranes and general electrical and instrumentation installations in adherence with the MHSA regulations
