POSITION:                  Trackless Artisan - Condition Monitoring

JOB GRADING:           C Lower

DEPARTMENT:           Engineering - Reliability

SITE:                            South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Trackless Artisan CM (Condition Monitoring) is responsible for performing all condition monitoring functions on TM3 equipment. The incumbent also assists the Reliability Engineer in developing, implementing, and reviewing equipment maintenance processes, reliability centred maintenance (RCM) tactics, and defect elimination projects in order to improve equipment reliability and asset integrity of the mine fleet to world-class standards. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic/Electrician/Auto Electrician/Millwright)
  • Have a minimum of three [3] years’ experience in condition monitoring in a trackless mining environment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

  • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule
  • Extensive knowledge of all the various components related to Mining Machinery e.g., Engines/Transmissions/Convertors/Cylinders/Valves/Rock drills/Compressors etc.
  • Knowledge of machinery and reliability fundamentals
  • Functional knowledge of primary predictive technologies such as Vibration, Infrared Thermography, Oil Analysis, Ultrasonic Analysis and Motor Current Analysis
  • Be computer literate in MS Office

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure health, safety and security of self and team by applying safety and security standards and procedures in the execution of maintenance activities
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
  • Promotes and develops team work to become an effective team member
  • Analyse and trend predictive maintenance data to improve machine reliability
  • Develop, implement, and maintain condition monitoring dashboards
  • Ongoing collaboration with the reliability and maintenance teams to develop and review maintenance and condition-based-maintenance strategies
  • Carry out planned task observations to identify any poor-quality workmanship to improve the component life on all Equipment and machinery
  • Identify, initiate, and implement improvement Quality projects to increase operational efficiencies and Equipment Reliability
  • To ensure that mechanical equipment in Trackless Engineering is maintained in a highly effective state in accordance with the company’s procedures for operations
  • Ensure that the condition monitoring of equipment, scheduled and planned maintenance are conducted timeously and effectively
