POSITION: Trackless Fitter
JOB GRADING: C – Lower
DEPARTMENT: Engineering TM3 – Fixed Plant
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Trackless Fitter is accountable for the installation and maintenance of On-reef Tips, Impact breakers, Ventilation doors and other on-reef (fixed) infrastructure. The incumbent delivers scheduled and unscheduled tasks as assigned to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). A core accountability of the role is to maintain the highest possible safety standards in area of operation and influence
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Mechanical Trade Certificate
- Minimum 3 years’ fitting and turning experience on underground pumps, valves, impact breakers, tips, gearboxes, hydraulic motors, etc.
- Be declared medical fit for the position and environment, as determined by risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

- Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
- Proven track record of production achievements
- Be computer literate in MS Office
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure health and safety of self and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
- Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, and Company standards
- Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by the application of specific instructions to own work area and task completion
- Conduct maintenance activities on underground pumps, valves, impact breakers, tips, gearboxes, hydraulic motors, and other fixed plant infrastructure equipment
- Carries out a pre-use inspection by using a checklist and physically testing the equipment, takes relevant corrective action and reports to Supervisor.
- Read and comprehend hydraulic drawings according to standards, procedures, and specifications
- Collaborate with service providers to carry out external inspections on equipment, as and when required
- Performs any other activities as per instruction necessary for the effective completion of work such as complete job cards and provide feedback to the Foreman at the end of shift, perform handover to the oncoming team member
- Adhere to planned maintenance schedule to ensure safe and optimal Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
