POSITION: Trackless Foreman Engineering Mechanical
JOB GRADING: C – Upper
DEPARTMENT: Engineering - Reliability
SITE: South Deep Gold Mine
The Rebuild Foreman – TMM Reliability is responsible for the end-to-end execution, supervision, and quality assurance of Trackless Mobile Machinery (TMM) refurbishment, rebuild, and commissioning activities. This role ensures that all rebuilt equipment is delivered in accordance with OEM specifications, site standards, and critical control requirements, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, reliability, and workmanship. The incumbent will lead a team of artisans and is accountable for legal compliance, safe equipment handling, and defect-free commissioning, while overseeing both surface and underground workshop operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Recognised Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic / Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic / Equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as an artisan on TMM equipment in an underground environment, with at least 3 years’ supervisory experience in a mining or engineering environment
- Valid driver’s licence (Code B or higher)
- Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

Key Competencies:
- Intermediate operational safety experience with sound appreciation for safety standards and record management
- Advanced knowledge of TMM systems (mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical)
- Proven experience in equipment rebuilds and commissioning of LHDs, Dump Trucks, and Drill Rigs
- Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and defect elimination
- Strong safety leadership with a focus on Zero Harm
- Sound knowledge and application of MHSA legal compliance requirements applicable to a Foreman
- Ability to enforce compliance across teams and workshop environments
- Proven planning and coordination skills for rebuild schedules
- SAP knowledge, including work orders, history tracking, and warranty management
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with MHSA, COPs, SOPs, site standards, legal requirements, and critical controls within the area of responsibility
- Take legal responsibility for the safe execution of work and drive a strong Zero Harm and behavioural safety culture
- Supervise, lead, coach, and manage a team of artisans and assistants, ensuring safe work practices, task compliance, and performance management
- Manage operations within the surface rebuild workshop and underground assembly/commissioning workshop, ensuring compliance with engineering, safety, housekeeping, and 5S standards
- Supervise and coordinate complete TMM rebuild, refurbishment, assembly, and commissioning activities in accordance with OEM and South Deep standards
- Manage QA/QC processes, defect elimination, and commissioning activities to ensure reliable and defect-free equipment performance
- Coordinate rebuild schedules, equipment movement, rigging, slinging, and commissioning activities to support operational availability targets
- Lead failure investigations, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability and reduce repeat failures
- Engage and coordinate with OEMs, suppliers, rebuild contractors, and operational stakeholders regarding technical support, warranty matters, and refurbishment quality
- Manage section budgets, maintain accurate rebuild and equipment records, and support M4R and O4R reliability improvement initiatives
