POSITION:                 Trackless Millwright 

JOB GRADING:          C-Lower

DEPARTMENT:          Engineering - TMM

SITE:                           South Deep Gold Mine

 

The Trackless Millwright will be responsible for performing maintenance tasks on the trackless fleet. The role requires safe execution of tasks involving both electrical and mechanical fault finding, as well as maintenance repairs, refurbishments, and installations. A core accountability of the role is to uphold the highest safety standards in the area of operation and influence. 

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Millwright or Electro-Mechanician Trade Certificate
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Millwright or Electro-Mechanician on trackless equipment
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

 

Key Competencies:

 

  • Proven track record in safety leadership
  • Proven interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills
  • Independent, proactive thinker and ability to schedule and deliver work within tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience with Sandvik, Atlas Copco, and Aard machines
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance and fault finding on trackless machinery
  • Proficient in the maintenance, repair, and installation of all components on trackless machinery
  • Proven knowledge of engineering metrics and concepts, such as MTTR, MTTF, O4R and M4R

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Ensure the health and safety of oneself and team members by applying relevant standards and procedures in all planning and execution of maintenance activities
  • Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations, manufacturing, and company standards
  • Contribute to a culture of zero harm by adhering to all requirements as laid down by legislation, health, safety, environmental, security policies, and procedures, and by applying specific instructions to one’s own work area and task completion
  • Promote and develop team work to become an effective team member
  • Ensure that mechanical equipment in the trackless environment is maintained to the highest standards to ensure excellence in availability and utilization
  • Ensure that condition monitoring of equipment and scheduled and planned maintenance are conducted timely and effectively
