Our four Australian mines – Agnew, St Ives, Granny Smith and Gruyere – are located in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia, where more than 1,600 staff are employed on a residential and fly-in, fly-out basis.
In the more than 20 years since Gold Fields’ acquired St Ives and Agnew gold mines, our industry presence has expanded exponentially.
This was further bolstered by the acquisition of the Granny Smith and Lawlers gold mines from Barrick Gold in October 2013.
Known as the Yilgarn South Assets, the mines provide an additional 452,000 ounces of annual production, 2.6 million reserve ounces and 1.9 million resource ounces - meaning Gold Fields’ largest regional Australian production centre accounts for 40 per cent of total production.
In November 2016, Gold Fields formed a 50 per cent joint venture agreement with Gold Road for the Gruyere deposit, which is mined as an open pit, with production commencing in 2019.
Our Vision: To be the preferred gold mining company delivering superior, sustainable value.
People: It is our policy is to prioritise and employ local labour and contractors wherever possible. We believe that responsibility towards our employees begins at the workplace and extends to a mindful approach to their health and wellbeing needs.
Sustainability: We adopt a long-term and thorough view to sustainability. To remain the best, we won’t do anything by halves. Equally important is our drive to do business exclusively with those who share our sustainability philosophy and beliefs.
Health and Safety: We are nothing without our people. Hence, safety is vital to us as a company and is the foundation of which our business is built. If we cannot mine safely, we will not mine at all. We are committed to a zero incident workforce and expect our people to play their part in making this a reality.
Community: We make it our priority to invest in local community development projects and initiatives at all of our four mines. We continue to forge proactive relationships with key stakeholders in our local communities, including Native Title claimant groups, pastoralists, key business partners and non-government organisations. Our Australian operations are highly focused on the rights of Indigenous people and are sensitive and respectful of the cultural heritage sites that exist around our mining tenements.
Environment: We are committed to ensuring that development and expansion of our business is done in such a way to minimise environmental and stakeholder impacts. Gold Fields Australia is dedicated to the responsible use of natural resources and acting responsibly in all areas of environmental management. Promoting environmental responsibility to all our employees and stakeholders, as well as throughout our supply chain through a variety of awareness programs, and comprehensive and innovative environmental field programs, is paramount.
