The Opportunity
As an Electrical Communications Technician within the Communications & Digital Technology Department at the owner-operated Granny Smith mine, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of underground and surface communication systems. This position involves hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and leadership within a collaborative work environment.

Skills & Qualifications
- Current WA manual driver’s licence
- WA “A” Class Electrical Licence or Restricted Electrical Licence (Minimum Requirement)
- Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology (Desirable)
- Demonstrated experience in radio communications, fibre, telemetry, and LTE systems, preferably within an underground mining environment
- Proficiency in using network diagnostic tools and test equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive and analytical approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
About the Role
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and condition monitoring of electrical and communication systems across underground and surface operations
- Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance of communication networks — including fibre optic systems, LTE networks, and radio communication infrastructure
- Utilise technical instruments such as Spectrum Analysers and OTDR testers for troubleshooting and verification
- Design, install, & commission communication systems, including Leaky Feeder, Structured Cabling, Fibre Optic & LTE infrastructure
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure communications infrastructure supports operational technology, safety systems, and production requirements
- Maintain detailed documentation, including network drawings, maintenance logs, and test reports
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and project rollouts within the Communications & Digital Technology Department
- Ensure all work complies with site safety standards, electrical & communication regulations, and Gold Fields’ policies
