Role Details

Reporting to the Senior Manager Environment Nature & Climate, you will be a part of a dynamic and engaged Leadership Team and be responsible for the delivery of all environmental activities within the operation which meet current and anticipated demands in accordance with Gold Fields EHS standard.

 

You will foster a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement, whilst maintaining strict compliance with relevant legislative and statutory requirements to ensure sustainable mining operations.

About the role:

 

  • Co-ordination and oversight of all relevant aspects of the business to provide appropriate environmental leadership.

  • Ensuring Agnew Gold Mine complies with all relevant environmental legal requirements and social expectations.

  • Manage and oversee the utilisation of assets to maximise return, including developing & reviewing the application of new procedures, processes, methodologies and technologies where appropriate.

  • Contribute to sustainable mining by advising on and facilitating land management for operations, including but not limited to considerations of tenure, stakeholder consultation & agreement and legal permissions under the relevant Environment Acts.

  • Partner with key stakeholders in the provision of coordination, support, direction and expertise in proactive environmental management ensuring effective controls are in place and managed, compliant with legislative, heritage and corporate obligations.

  • Prepare and manage department budgets and forecasts ensuring that all operational and capital needs are adequately catered for to effectively deliver on the department’s business plan and provide the necessary training and exposure to direct reports so that they can assist in cost control.

  • Demonstrate good commercial acumen by monitoring expenditure for the department, continually ensuring that expenses are effectively controlled with cost saving opportunities identified & implemented wherever practicable.

  • Lead and engage the Environmental Team in the development of the departmental business plan, encouraging full participation and buy-in from team members and providing clear communication and understanding of Department goals, targets and objectives, whilst ensuring full alignment with the business unit, Gold Fields strategic plans.

  • Manage the development, implementation and audit of Environmental Management Standards and the site ISO14001 management system, including the design of appropriate strategies to ensure compliance throughout the business.

 

About you:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership, performance development experience in a multi-disciplinary environment.

  • Advanced level of competency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Knowledge of environmental statutory and legal requirements.
