Senior Operator : Control Room

The Opportunity:
Reporting directly to the Process Shift Supervisor, the Senior Control Room Operator is responsible for the real-time monitoring and control of the Processing Plant using the Yokogawa Distributed Control System (DCS).
You will be the primary technical lead in the control room, ensuring production targets are met safely and efficiently while maintaining environmental and quality standards. This will include mentoring and training new Control Room Operators to maintain competency across all shifts.
This role is offered on an 8/6 7/7 FIFO roster.
Responsibilities will include.
- Monitor and adjust process variables via the Yokogawa DCS to maintain stable plant operation
- Provide detailed feedback to contribute to optimization of control loops and setpoints to maximise throughput and recovery rates while minimising energy and reagent consumption
- Manage the safe and efficient startup, shutdown, and emergency isolation of plant equipment using the DCS in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Be a central communication hub between the Shift Supervisor, Process Technicians, maintenance teams, and metallurgy staff to coordinate daily activities and resolve process disruptions.
- Maintain an accurate and detailed Control Room Log, including shift handovers and incident information.
- Deliver hands-on training for new Control Room Operators, focusing on Yokogawa DCS navigation, alarm management, and process logic.
- Assess the competency of Control Room Operators and provide constructive feedback to the Shift Supervisor.
- Update and refine control room training manuals and procedures to reflect process changes or system upgrades.
- Monitor and respond to all safety and environmental alarms, initiating emergency procedures (e.g., Emergency Shutdowns) when required.
- Assist in day-to-day operational activities as required, including providing operational support during leave periods for technicians.
- Consistently demonstrate and reflect behaviours, actions and attitudes in line with the Gold Field’s Vision, Values and Code of Ethics.
- Actively promote Gold Field’s policies, procedures and systems relating to your area of responsibility.
- Demonstration of full compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental Management Systems.
Skills
- Significant experience in operating a gold mineral processing plant with specific proficiency in Yokogawa DCS.Certificate III or IV in Resource Processing (or equivalent) is highly regarded
- Previous supervisory/management experience in a mineral production plant, preferably with experience in crushing, milling, leaching and water management.
- Demonstrated experience in planning tasks, maintaining a well-organized and structured working environment,
- Advanced diagnostic skills to troubleshoot complex process abnormalities and ability to monitor multiple data streams simultaneously.
- Sound decision making competencies using available information and resources.
- High level interpersonal skills with clear and concise communication ability.
- Collaborative and outcomes focused approach to all aspects of your role.
