OHS Manager
Agnew - Leinster, WA, AU, 6437

- Drive Critical Risk Management & Safety Performance at Agnew Gold Mine
- WHS qualification & mining safety experience required
The Opportunity:
As Manager OHS, you will be a key member of the Agnew leadership team, partnering directly with the General Manager, operational leaders and frontline supervisors to improve how critical risks are identified, understood and controlled.
This role is about far more than compliance. You will lead a capable Health, Safety and Training team while driving the maturity of operational risk management, critical control verification, incident learning and leadership capability across the operation.
Success in this role will be measured by the quality of risk-based decision making, the effectiveness of critical controls and the capability of leaders to manage risk in the field.
We are looking for a leader who can improve how risk decisions are made across the operation, not simply manage safety systems.
Why You’ll Love Working for Us
- Permanent role with a leading gold producer
- 6% site allowance
- Annual short term & long-term incentives, monthly private health insurance allowance
- 5 weeks annual leave, long service leave after 5 years, paid parental leave
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop the Health, Safety and Training team at Agnew.
- Partner with the General Manager and Site Leadership Team to improve operational risk management and critical control effectiveness.
- Drive the implementation and maturity of Gold Fields' Operational Risk Management framework.
- Build leadership capability in risk ownership, decision making and safe work execution.
- Ensure significant incidents result in meaningful organisational learning and sustainable improvement.
- Lead assurance activities that verify critical controls are effective in practice, not just compliant on paper.
- Use operational data, field observations and workforce engagement to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities.
- Foster a culture where operational leaders own risk and safety outcomes.
- Maintain productive relationships with regulators, contractors and workforce representatives.
What You’ll Bring
- Significant experience leading health and safety functions within mining or other high-risk industries.
- Demonstrated success influencing operational leaders and driving improvement in complex environments.
- Strong understanding of critical risk management, critical controls and operational assurance.
- Experience leading investigations into significant incidents and translating findings into systemic improvements.
- Proven ability to build capability, coach leaders and improve operational performance.
- A practical and credible leadership style with strong field engagement.
- Tertiary qualification in WHS or related discipline preferred.
- Current manual driver's licence.
Who Will Thrive in This Role
You are likely already operating in a leadership role within mining, contracting, resources or another high-hazard industry.
You understand that improving safety performance is not about more paperwork, inspections or compliance activity. You are passionate about helping leaders make better risk decisions, strengthening critical controls and building capability where work is performed.
You are comfortable challenging existing thinking, influencing senior leaders and turning strategy into practical outcomes in the field.
