Role Details

Gold Fields Australia is currently seeking an experienced Senior Resource Geologist to join the Group Technical Geology Resource team.

Reporting to the Superintendent: Resource Geology you will be responsible for generating, maintaining and reviewing mineral inventory and Mineral Resource models. The successful incumbent may also be required to manage geological data and quality assurance systems. 

This role is offered on a Monday to Friday or 9 day fortnight roster at our Perth corporate office on a permanent basis with monthly 4-day site visits required. For this role we will consider full-time, part-time or job share options.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the safety culture and performance of Gold Fields and ensures that the Vital Behaviours are adhered to at all times
  • Develop and implement strategies to identify and maximize new opportunities for the operation through improved evaluation methodologies
  • Provide expert resource modeling skills and develop appropriate resource models for mines and exploration projects
  • Prepare and complete all reporting requirements with the appropriate level of detail within agreed timeframes
  • Maintain and align staff with a continuous improvement program that ensures the Resource estimation practices, procedures, guidelines, site standard software and peer review processes are effective, current and in line with industry best practice standards
  • Comply with external audits and industry best practice by ensuring that all prepared models meet the requirements of SAMREC, JORC and SOX standards
  • Maintain a strong involvement with the QA/QC function in order to ensure the quality of the data supporting the Resource models
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the financial implications and impacts of Resource model quality on mining and exploration decisions, by producing high quality, accurate resource models in a timely manner
  • Audit and review mine and exploration models as part of a peer review process and provide appropriate inputs to improve quality of estimation
  • Strong focus on model reconciliation with an ability to interrogate the causes of changes to models and demonstrate the impact on the resulting model

Key factors to your success include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or related discipline with strong mathematical & statistical emphasis
  • Minimum 5 years in combined Mine, Exploration or Project Geology plus at least 5 years as a Resource Geologist in the relevant gold mining and exploration industry
  • Proven geological interpretation skills with the ability to apply this to resource estimation
  • Experience with Ordinary Kriging and estimation quality optimisation
  • Experience with linear estimation, recoverable estimation and simulation techniques with ability to decide on and apply the most appropriate methods
  • Understanding of QA/QC procedures, drilling and sampling practices and standard gold industry laboratory and analytical methods
  • Highly developed skills with Microsoft Office, Datamine, Leapfrog Geo and geostatistical software including Supervisor and Isatis
