We have an opportunity for a Lead Specialist Project Economics to join our Group Technical Team in a dynamic, international environment. This position is newly created through our recent operating model update to build on the global nature and impact of our business.

 

Role Details:

Reporting to the Chief Technical Officer, you will collaborate with technical, operational and finance teams to assess capital project feasibility, and provide insights into operational efficiency and annual business planning cycles. This role is key in ensuring projects align with strategic objectives and deliver optimal economic value.

This role is offered on a Monday to Friday roster on a permanent full-time basis.

About the role:

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for mining projects, incorporating capital costs, operating costs, revenues, taxes, and royalties.
  • Conduct comprehensive economic assessments of projects, including Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), payback period, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to the Chief Technical Officer and technical leadership team regarding project viability and financial implications.
  • Assess and compare different project options, considering economic, operational, and environmental factors to support decision-making.
  • Provide support and consolidate of physical and financial information during the annual business planning cycle.
  • Identify and evaluate financial risks associated with mining projects, including commodity price volatility, geopolitical factors, and regulatory changes.
  • Perform benchmarking analysis to support business decisions.
  • Ensure that economic analyses align with applicable regulations, tax laws, and fiscal regimes in the regions where the company operates.
  • Monitor global mining trends, commodity markets, and macroeconomic factors to provide insights that influence project assessments.

 

Our ideal applicant will hold;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline is essential.

  • Master’s degree or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) or CPA(Certified public accountant) designation is an advantage.

  • A proven track record of extensive practical experience in a similar role and similar complexity in a global environment.

  • Strong understanding of mining project economics, financial valuation techniques, and cost structures.

  • Experience with financial modelling tools and software (e.g., Excel, Crystal Ball, @Riskor similar).

  • Knowledge of global mining regulations, taxation, and fiscal regimes.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
