The Opportunity

Supporting and advising the VP Greenfields Exploration and Corporate Development teams, you’ll ensure exploration remains central to our long-term growth strategy playing a critical role in value creation through discovery.

With a diverse and growing portfolio focused on high-potential jurisdictions, our Greenfields efforts currently span North America, South America, Africa, and Australia – regions that are both operational heartlands and exploration frontiers. Looking ahead, we are actively seeking to broaden our global scope, assessing new jurisdictions and mineral provinces to further strengthen and diversify our pipeline of discovery opportunities. You’ll help lead and support technical teams exploring in some of the world’s most prospective and emerging terrains.

Your Impact

Lead the global coordination and optimisation of our exploration investment portfolio. This critical role ensures our exploration funding is directed toward the highest-quality, value-accretive opportunities that align with the Group’s long-term growth ambitions.

This is a pragmatic and hands-on leadership role that blends strategic oversight with deep technical engagement. You will lead:

• Global Portfolio Leadership – Coordinate and prioritise exploration projects worldwide to support investment decisions and long-term value creation
• Technical Excellence – Set and uphold technical standards, lead peer reviews, and oversee high-quality evaluations across the portfolio and new opportunities
• Strategy, Innovation & Insights – Shape and implement the global exploration strategy, identify prospective regions, and drive adoption of leading-edge technologies
• Leadership & Communication – Lead executive reporting, mentor technical talent, and promote cross-regional collaboration and knowledge sharing
• Values-Driven Growth – Model strong safety, ethical and ESG leadership, and represent Gold Fields in key industry forums and research initiatives

Success in this role demands a strong discovery mindset, sharp commercial acumen, and the ability to translate bold ideas into tangible exploration outcomes that will define the next generation of Gold Fields’ growth projects.

Your Experience

You are a technically credible exploration geologist with a strong discovery mindset and experience managing exploration portfolios at the global level. You bring:

• A proven track record in gold exploration and technical leadership
• Experience operating across multiple jurisdictions within a major mining company environment, with a strong understanding of the strategic, regulatory, and cultural considerations that impact global exploration success
• Demonstrated understanding of exploration-focused business development, including identifying, assessing, and advancing growth opportunities through partnerships, JVs, or acquisitions
• A strategic mindset with experience managing global or multi-regional portfolios
• Strong understanding of commercial drivers and valuation principles
• Experience collaborating with junior explorers to unlock early-stage opportunities through strategic partnerships, joint ventures, or acquisition pathways
• The ability to build strong relationships across geoscience, corporate and functional teams within Gold Fields
• A passion for discovery, innovation, and sustainable exploration practices
