Located at St Ives Gold Mine—on the shores of Lake Lefroy near Kambalda—you’ll work within a committed and passionate team. St Ives is a long-standing and high-performing asset with over 40 years of operation and more than a decade of mine life ahead.

 

Role Details:

Reporting to the Senior: Geology Assistant, predominately your role will be assisting the geological team to facilitate optimum production in the core yard operations for both surface and underground drilling programs. Additionally, there are some field based tasks during drill program downtime.

This opportunity is available for Kambalda or Kalgoorlie residents only on an 8 days on 6 days off roster. Bus transportation is offered from town to and from the mine site daily.

A day in the life:

  • Shift starts at 6am
  • Complete breathalyzer
  • Attend pre-start meeting – talk about safety, general overview of works happening
  • Senior Geology Assistant gives out jobs for the day which could include:
    • Working in the core shed processing diamond drill core
    • Orientation
    • Meter Marking
    • RQD
    • Core Photography
    • Carrying core (between 2 people could be up to 30-40kgs)
    • Picking up sample bags
    • Cutting core
    • Sampling core
  • Following quality control protocols
  • Data entry using computer into Acquire and other software
  • Prepare samples to be dispatched to the assay laboratory
  • Working in a team of 8
  • Rehabilitation of drill sites (pending drill programs) and field work
    • Checking historic drill holes
    • Shovelling/digging
    • Walking between holes in remote environments
    • Working in all weather conditions – in particular heat during summer
  • Meal and rest breaks throughout the day
  • Shift ends at 5pm

Training and development for the role is offered on site and the role is mostly manual labour type work.

 

About you:

  • You will hold a valid manual driver’s licence
  • Reasonable level of physical fitness
  • Ideally you will hold a forklift ticket or be willing to obtain
  • Possess a Senior First Aid Certificate is desirable
  • Like to work competently in an outdoor role in remote environments during drill program downtime
