Geologist : Projects

The Opportunity 
Reporting to the Senior Geologist: Mining at St Ives, you will be responsible for providing quality mine geology services and working collaboratively with the broader Mining Team to maximise the return from the underground operations.

This role can be offered as a 12 month fixed term contract.

About the role:

• Assist the technical department to implement mining methodology that minimises dilution and maximises recovery of economic resources;
• Collate and deliver accurate production and geological models, data, forecasts and associated reports within agreed timeframes to provide management guidance with progress/status against outlook, forecast and budget;
• Contribute to the definition, implementation and monitoring of short, medium and long-term mine exploration programs to extend the Life of Mine (LOM) and increase reserves and resources;
• Planning, organising and management of grade control and mine definition drill programs including supervising drill contractors;
• Document and define the controls on mineralisation through mapping, reports and presentations to build a bank of quality historical data and knowledge for current and future reference;
• Take ownership and responsibility for the geological, structural and block models for your operation; provide high level contribution to the geological interpretation, grade control models, resource models and reports to ensure accuracy of interpretation and the ability to deliver on expected outcomes/strategic objectives.
• Provide ongoing mentoring and coaching to Mine and Graduate Geologists to improve individual development and capability and enhance employee engagement and productivity;
• Supporting the Mine Geology team including coverage for the Senior Geologist and Mine Geologists as required;

About you: 

• Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology/Earth Science. Post graduate qualifications would be highly regarded.
• Solid experience in an underground production mining environment
• Experience in geological modelling with exposure to resource estimation
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and geological software such as Datamine and Leapfrog 
• Possess a valid Driver’s Licence
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
